Oman Methanol Company LLC is a joint venture between Methanol Holding International Limited (MHIL) of Trinidad, Oman Methanol Holding Company LLC (OMHC), which is a division of Omar Zawawi Establishment (Omzest) Group & MAN Ferrostaal AG of Germany. The project has the backing of MHTL, which already owns four methanol plants in Trinidad and Tobago and is in the process of constructing the world’s largest methanol plant with a production capacity of 5400 tonne per day; the OMZEST Group of H.E. Dr Omar Zawawi; and Ferrostaal, a worldwide experienced project developer and contractor with the backing of the MAN Group. Finance for the project has been provided by the German bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). The project will see the construction of a 3000 MTPD plant in the Sohar Port Industrial area, which will use Johnson Matthey LPM technology as originally developed by ICI. Financial close was achieved on April 21, 2005 and the facility is expected to come on-stream in the second half of 2007. The plant will be managed and operated by Oman Plants Services Company LLC (OPSC), which is a joint venture between Omar Zawawi Establishment (Omzest) Group and Industrial Plant Services Limited , a Trinidadian company which manages and operates Methanol Holding Trinidad Limited’s methanol plants In Trinidad. The plant will employ Johnson Matthey's Low Pressure Methanol Process incorporated with Toyo's proprietary MRF-Z® Reactor for methanol synthesis. The 3,000t/d MRF-Z® Reactor would become the world largest methanol converter composed of a single vessel and raising steam as energy saving design. |
